Description

Why do I bother with this gallery? Anyway, this is another sort of tribute to Sargent - I thought I'd experiment with luminescent figures against a very dark background. There's quite a bit of detail so too bad if it gets lost on darker screen settings. © 2004 Lorna H.

I love all the details you put on this. Specially the background and the clothes. They seem so real! *_* I wish I could have that patience.
Is there any reason why they're all so pale?

There are two problems I have with this piece, it is very monochramatic, the figures are completly not interacting with the background. The man to the left even seems like he is some sort of doll. The second problem with this is that is has no story. Who are those people, why are they standing there, what is this building? Maybe a story would also explain why the left man looks like a doll.

The fabrics and detailing are however very beautifull in my opinion

And btw: the bottompart of the dress is almost exactly the same as in your other piece Waiting.

I bthink a few more hard shadows on the white vampire-like skin would help it look more cohesive.Nice detail on things like the hands and dress.I would try to cut back on the smudging a little,it's detracting from your obvious talent.^_^

- from the artist: yeah, I guess the monocromatic stuff was intentional, so maybe I got a little carried away. My only goal was to bring out the lightness of the skin from the darkness of the background. Great eye for catching the skirt - it's a cut and paste from "Waiting" - I'm a terribly lazy artist :) And to answer your question about the story - there is no story. Sorry! I just decided I'd paint these three figures. Maybe it's a love triangle - I don't know.

- from the artist: thanks for the advice about darkening the shadows on the figures. I'm acutally surprised you think it looks smudged - while I didn't use the smudge tool or anything I guess still have to learn a few things about working on tablet (this is my first digital painting using a Wacom)

beautiful :) they look a bit stiff, unliving, which i suppose could be appropriate for vampires, though all of them being stiff at the same time seems a bit odd. love the fabrics and details :)

This is really beautiful. I love the outfits. Although I have a feeling that the background is a bit crammed. You might wanna try to make it a little less busy. But I'm really not the best person to listen to on backgrounds, haha. Nice work.

The woman reminds me of 'Wuthering Heights'...
I love the complex fabrics and the contrast. Wonderful job!
